| Julia was born and raised in beautiful Taos, New Mexico. Since childhood she had dreamed of dancing and performing. Finally, at age 17 she began studying Flamenco under the great Catalina Rio Fernandez. Commuting 150 miles daily from Taos to Santa Fe for practices her dedication finally paid off when she started dancing, performing and traveling with the Flamenco Nuevo Mexico Dance Troupe. She danced with the troupe for nearly five years, and also performed as a solo artist, dancing near her hometown of Taos. During that time she felt the need to shift in a new direction. Julia began to study the art of Belly Dance with international Egyptian belly dancer and teacher Sakti Rinek. To this day she continues her travels for dance, indulges in art and the passionate fusion of her Flamenco, Belly Dance and wild gypsy spirit. | Dave has been playing guitar since around the age of eight. Around age 12 his sister tired of not being able to play her own guitar and bought him his own. He still owns it. Dave played in various high school bands in the 70s but put ‘the music thing’ on hold for almost 20 years. Then the bug bit again and he started playing more publicly in the late 90s. In 2009 while playing at a Watertown, SD outdoor art festival, he met Julia, who was performing a flamenco dance. Just as she finished he asked if she could dance to “Malaguena”, one of his mom’s favorites. Although tired, Julia acquiesced and thus Gypsy Fusion Artistry was born. | ||
